[ Jingyi, Jingyi, where is it Tidus can fiiind you.
Okay, sure, he could do this asking via the ICP, but instead, Tidus will walk! Through the carriages, some point before dinner but after lunch, with the goal of finding one (1) dragon guy. Is he training? Gaming? Goofing off? Lazing?
Wherever it is that Tidus might find him, he'll have the decency to wait if he seems to be in the middle of something, taking a moment to call over with a, ] Jingyi! [ and approaching.
Unless he needs to go to his cabin to find him, then that'll be a quick knocking on the door, ] Jingyi? [ asked with it. ]
( in full sorta circle sense, he's caught up to while he's going through his sword forms, expression set into his version of neutrality: he who can, and does, suffer resting bitch face when concentrating.
the call out of his name breaks through that, and he comes out of a twisting thrust to lower his blade, sheath in his other hand. his tail forms a sort of sweep to the side as his eyebrows lift and he offers a half-smile, still mentally in training mode. )
Tidus? ( he truly shakes his head then, and sheathes his sword, one smooth motion. ) Did you need me for something?
( ............. wait but why, he's like, the least useful person for train things, so he amends: )
[ Tidus waves a hand, dismissive, casual, as he walks over with a slow, easy pace. ]
I had something I wanted to give to you. [ He looks, left and right, a brief thing before- ] This a good time?
[ Should he maybe wait later? He wonders if he should have waited, but then, this isn't so different from when Inigo and Jingyi approached him before. So, shouldn't be a bad thing, right? ]
Huh? Sure, as long as it's not a challenge to a duel or something, that should wait until after I eat.
( Not being particularly serious, but look, if he did have to fight for showcasing reasons, please feed him first. At least he's looking amused at his own cleverness, which isn't all that clever, and crosses his arms. Peering at Tidus.
Wellll, [ if Jingyi can look amused for his own cleverness, then Tidus can look the same, for the perfect opening, ] speaking of eating, and I guess a duel can come after if you really want one-
[ Tidus brings his hands together, one wrist with a gold band, the other with his SCA, a usual sight - and with his hands close to one another, a plate appears: homing some still warm spring rolls, and siomais, materialising following a gold colouring.
He moves out the plate towards Jingyi, once he's got a proper grip on it. ]
A gift - for the one you gave me with Inigo. If you want it? And I'll admit, I got Sizhui to help me make them - Lan Sizhui. [ Because it wouldn't feel right to be honest. ] I'm not used to making wraps that thin.
[ He wasn't even sure if he could without some special ingredient they didn't have, but thankfully, it was all about the rolling out! ]
( He tucks his sheathed sword up under an arm with a snort, followed by a grin. )
Of course I want it, I'm not trying to make you an enemy!
( Which logically flows (to him), as he holds out his hands. One part he recognises, and whatever those delightful little creations are next to the spring rolls, he wants one in his mouth. Taste testing. )
Sizhui helped? Of course he did, rolling these can be a pain in the tail. Did you make some for Inigo too, or did you give him something else already?
( He might be saying all this but, er, he's. Staring at the food. He's a simple guy, really. )
And no duel, I spar, or I fight, but not duel or dual anything.
[ The plate is passed over in ownership! Enjoy, Jingyi's intrigued senses to mixed tofu and mushrooms, and the spices with them. ]
I got something else for Inigo. [ Heh. ] But these, we made them when we had this fake birthday party for Inigo and Taiki, and the Sizhuis told me these were kinda like foods they knew, so- [ He nods at them. ] I figured they'd be familiar!
[ Well. ] Close to familiar. But anyway, if you don't like it- [ He turns a hand in gesture to the plate. ] It's okay, you won't hurt my feelings telling me. I don't know if there's anything about gifts, but- I'll make something else if you don't, is what I'm saying.
( He ends up trying one of the exact things he doesn't know, popping it in his mouth and closing his eyes to taste it fully, tail continuing its curious curl back and forth. It stills for a moment as he chews, then swallows, eyes sliding open as he licks his lips and grins. It's familiar, but also not, and he enjoys it.
... And eats enough that spice is not the worry he'd have coming off a true Lan diet, where bland is keyword. Simplicity in all things. )
These are good! Thank you! And I'm glad to hear they had all of you celebrating them, though is that usually a big thing? Holding fake birthday parties? ... Holding celebrations for birthdays as a whole?
( Gifts or an extra dish or acknowledgement, sure. He wonders if celebrating here was trying to reclaim joy against the despair parts of this situation make impossible to ignore.
... He's also eating another one of those new things. )
No, the only thing about gifts is the rudeness in refusing them. It'd be basically telling someone you think so little of them, you'd rather be enemies. Anyway, I'm not gonna object if you wanna cook more for me, I'm not the most kitchen capable guy.
( He lacks. Patience. Unless chicken is involved, because that was the rarity he didn't taste more than once in a while, or he ever figures out he can be creative with what he does with vegetables when not confined to Gusu Lan. Give him time.
He grins at that, definitely cheeky now. )
But it wouldn't be because these aren't accepted as they are. Is this tofu? What mushrooms are these? I can't figure out which spices you used... what are they called?
That's strong. [ It's a thought in his mind, slipping out, even after the point about gifts and declining them has been said and passed over, a sort of remark to himself, but not entirely mattered. He folds his arms without his hands full now, not feeling any need to think about picking at what's Jingyi's gift (even with it being fingerfood-like - but he did plenty of that already, between getting Sizhui onboard with helping him. Unnecessary bribery). ]
The train's got these white mushrooms? Nothing really fancy; you're probably tasting a lot of the soy sauce, really. And the pepper. But we used a spice called paprika, just a pinch. Not bad, huh? The tofu really eats up the soy sauce. I'm not used to it, but I got to mess around with it this month.
[ Because he does know his way around the kitchen, but that doesn't mean he's an expert at it. Tofu, that's not an unknown ingredient, but not the same of its equivalent as he knew about back home, and one he never really bothered with either. Why, after all, when there's plenty of meats? ]
Anyway, some places celebrate your birthday! We did it - [ read: Tidus decided ] - since Taiki and Inigo never did it before! And how're you going to celebrate your real birthdays if you're not even using the same calendar as back home?
[ He spreads out his hands, in place of a shrug. ]
It was a fun excuse to treat them and hang out with friends!
( The that's strong gets a flicker of attention, and the quirk of his brows, before it's off and forgotten in the present tense of food instruction. )
Soy sauce's great like that, gotta be careful with it. Still, easier to deal with more of that then too much chili oil or peppers or whatever.
( We take our anachronisms and run with them.
He blinks as he smiles, shrugging his shoulders. )
Yeah, making up those is what we all do, isn't it? I like moon viewings. It's great, you can justify food and drinks and friends all at a once and people are just like why? Moon viewing. Or stars, if it's a new moon.
( As far as calendars, or years measuring the same, or anything else, who knows? He sure as hell isn't going to try and guess. Though: )
So even if it was for the fun of it, why a birthday? Did they both decide they were older from having been here long enough?
( ... yeah, he's still eating. Just. We're sorry, that's going to be happening between questions and the like. )
[ Eat away, isn't that the purpose? And it seems like the best time to bring food, a gift with good timing. At least Jingyi likes them, chatting away between mouthfuls, but it's a kind of ease and energy that Tidus likes, so: ]
Well, they didn't care - but birthdays can be fun. It made it about them, right? Birthdays are good for giving people presents, indulging them. If we just said we were hanging out, it wouldn't have been like that! So it was an excuse, really.
[ An excuse to have a day all about them. But Tidus tips his head, brows raising as he considers. ]
We could have called it 'Inigo and Taiki Day'... but I think they would've died from embarrassment. [ Or close to it, anyway. Tidus looks up from his drifted off gaze, a remembered thought as he looks back at Jingyi. ]
But we had a projector! It's a machine that makes the space look like somewhere else! So we made the room we were using look like the top of a mountain, and then a field of flowers!
( He pauses in eating another one of the rolls, quirking up his brows and laughing. )
Yeah, they might have, if Xiao Ki could find it in him to say it, or Inigo wasn't already distracted by something else when you announced that.
( No, he doesn't fail to register that Taiki tends to not offer opposition, except in being asked for direct opinions, much as he can be. What does or doesn't fluster Inigo is making more sense over time, to someone with zero inclination toward shyness himself. Though also: )
Are we gonna be throwing you one anytime soon?
( A birthday, or a you day, whichever. Seems like turnabout would be fair play, right? )
This projector... ( he snorts, now looking truly amused, and a little disbelieving. ) You know, there's a surprising amount of technology that's about providing people with access to customised illusions. At least it sounds nicer than staring at the train's familiar walls and getting all hemmed in.
Help the kids get an art car, me a pool car, and I'll be fine.
[ Next to having a birthday party, that is. He isn't really bothered about that sort of thing himself, has had plenty in his lifetime (compared to other people), that he just smiles at the idea, dismissive - or compromises - easily.
But what Jingyi says next does provide some moment of thought - if only that, temporary. ]
The world we got it from didn't have a lot to look at. You...weren't here for Kamakan, were you? City stuck in a big glass jar, you couldn't leave?
[ A less than glamorous way of describing Kamakan. ]
Define what you mean by pool car. After Aquafir, I'm aware that doesn't mean pool like I'd assume it means.
( Though he offers a crooked grin, along with: )
Either way, I guess 'Tidus Day' is on hold until we get whatever the train thinks a pool car should look like.
( But for the question, the grin fades, and he furrows his brow, shaking his head. Also popping the rest of that roll into his mouth. He hardly needs to say no like that, right? )
A Swim Palace, that's what it should look like. [ Defiantly, assuredly is the way he states it, a joking assertion, but also: ] A swimming pool so big and deep, you need a double car to fit it!
Or, you know. Something long and deep and with water. It's not like you need a hot tub in there- the spa's got one of those.
[ So why should there be anything else but the standard? And what the standard is, hopefully Jingyi can now closely more imagine it with Swim Palace comparison. Some fewer frills, sigh, but Tidus will take any amount of that and plonk it into the train.
But, places been: ] Kamakan was... it was like I said: a city stuck in itself, closed in. The air sucked, you couldn't go outside - it was a wasteland out there. You never saw anything growing there, like plants. Those projectors were the closest they were getting to seeing the outdoors.
[ It was sad. And what was Kamakan up to now? They didn't go there to solve their real issue. How long could a place like that keep going the way it was? ]
... Can I vote for long and deep and filled with water?
( But his lips twitch up, more amused than anything else. He keeps asking for a cold spring. He's fairly sure there's only a handful of people in all this train who'd be down for his idea. Maybe people would like a chicken carriage better?
(No.) )
Kamakan sounds horrible. What happened to the world outside? Only getting to see anything natural in an illusion is just... sad.
( The kind of sad that makes him stop eating. Tidus, that's way too sad. Was it war? )
[ That sounds like a pool to him. Because someone isn't thinking about the temperature here, and is just immediately thinking 'water'.
Water good. ]
No clue what happened. Too machine gas-spewing machines? All I know is that they used to be a void active world, but then stopped. I guess 'cause the place got too bad? [ He wonders for a moment if it was natural, but he doubts it. ]
Sizhui can tell you how bad it was though. Lan Sizhui. We had to share a scarf for a while just 'cause the air was so bad getting to the floor we needed to be on!
( be prepared for cold water, Tidus, that's the life Jingyi's used to living. or else the train will be actually nice, and any pool car will be a pouting worthy nightmare for Jingyi. as you do. )
It what? ( he blinks, parsing that, and ignoring the machines that made gas, as it makes no real sense to him. sounds like a thing, he'll accept it, ask him nothing about it ever again. ) Did they get bad before the void stopped being ... what does it even mean to be void active or inactive? Does the void just cut planets off?
( Sizhui's name mentioned earns a nod of his head, looking a bit like he wants to frown. then he does frown. )
No one's lungs were messed up from that? Did you all purify afterward?
I think it's like... your planet gets to the point where people who use the void notice it, and you get invited in the void club? [ He goes quiet for a few seconds, but- he twists his hands, palms up, in place of a shrug. ]
I dunno. I don't read books about the void. I can't get my head around them.
[ It's too much, and seems rather pointless for him to know. ]
We had oxygen tanks - you put on a mask, [ and he puts a hand over his mouth, in example, ] and it feeds oxygen, so you breathe better. I didn't hear anything about people falling ill, so I think everyone turned out okay that made it.
( He sounds a touch close to resigned by this, and there, there goes his tail, have you seen a guilty tail swoosh back and forth? There it goes again, him reflecting on how he should step up and not avoid it just because he can, and knowing he's not lazy. Preoccupied, busy, first distracted because the books he tugged off shelf at the library were more sensationalist (read: romance) or obscure (read: filled with lingo he's only getting a handle on now), but that's not reason enough in time.
He'll make his way that direction... thanks Tidus... for reminding him to be responsible... not that he thinks he's going to get it, exactly. But if he doesn't try, he's letting down his clan. )
Yeah, but, did anyone check? ( Also heard that "that made it" and frowns, and sighs, because it's still... what? he gestures to his SCA, shoved up high around his bicep over his shirt; ) I know these things keep us tethered here, and do some pretty big things, ( he means: is your existenceline, buddy ) but I didn't think they helped purify or heal internally anything like that. Damage to lungs can show up way later, we saw it with the fires when Gusu burned when I was growing up.
( he doesn't look worried so much as bothered at the possibility, for what it's worth. )
[ Does Jingyi want to read books? He shrugs at Jingyi at his spoken wonder, the decision not his.
...wait, are they walking now?! Well, we guess Tidus wasn't exactly up to anything, but if he's going to start walking while they're talking, Tidus doesn't mind following.
But as for checking- ]
Uhh, pass. If the medics did a check-up, I didn't hear about it? [ And though Jingyi might not be bothered, Tidus is putting a hand to his own chest in contemplation. A blitz pro's biggest asset is their lungs! ] --How do you purify lungs? Is that a thing? Maybe my magic's healed me since then.
[ He's rather saying the last to himself, since that's the way magic works. Just heals without his direction most of the time! (Please be okay, precious lungs) ]
( Look, he comes from a time where books were the majority entertainment. He only hates boring books. Which, honestly, are usually the clan precept books, which are even more boring when you've memorised them from enough copying precepts due to your own rule breaking...
... Anyway. All that said, he grins at Tidus, holding up two fingers and letting a blueish glow of his qi generate. )
Could check if you wanted~
( Amused mostly, because last time, he knows he'd just been giving Tidus direct energy, and leaving him amped up. Healing is different in that sense, and as a Lan, he has the most general sense of that: broad spectrum, could be targeted, but nothing remotely like the touch Ryo has. There was a healer, and one who did damn good, and damn dangerous, work.
Anyway, where's Jingyi even taking them? Apparently to No Comment Land. (No, he's headed vaguely toward the kitchens; all this eating makes him thirsty, and he didn't bring water to practise, because he got lazy, and so now here we are, trekking along.) )
a couple of days after gift giving in merriment ; action

[ He's rather saying the last to himself, since that's the way magic works. Just heals without his direction most of the time! (Please be okay, precious lungs) ]
